When a new variety comes along that offers you the higest yield, the best standing power, the earliest maturity and the opportunity to reduce your seed costs by 33% you really do have to take notice. Following outstanding results and eventual listing in France, DIVA was entered into PGRO trials last year. It confirmed its outstanding performace by out-performing the current market leading varieties Clipper and Wizard.
The main pointst that came out of the PGRO trials were:
The other and probably most significant difference was the 1000 grain weight. DIVA was 456 grammes compared to Wizard @ 665 grammes and Clipper @ 636 grammes. When drilling by seed numbers this offers the opportunity to reduce the amount of seed by weight required by approximately 33%.
DIVA produces a grain size more akin to Tic Beans and because of this we are currently in discussions with a number of end users hoping to source alternative uses. The bean has already been proven to be acceptable to the organic salmon and cod markets and contracts are avaialble for autumn 2006 across the UK.
